EssentialMetal.com Heavy Metal Hall of Fame

Since most of the Heavy Metal and Hard Rock bands that are eligible have been snubbed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and will continue to be I decided to start my own Hall of Fame for this site.  This is not an "official" list but I do have a group of die hard metal fans that will contribute to the selection process for future years.

I do cover Hard Rock bands on this site and since there really were not that many heavy metal bands in the 70's I will include a few of the bigger hard rock bands of the day on here even though they would not be considered heavy metal by today's standards.  Many of the 80's bands that were considered heavy metal back then but would not be now will also be included on this page. There were some bands in the 60's that were heavy for the day and maybe had some influence on future heavy metal bands but it is generally accepted by most metal fans that Black Sabbath was the first real heavy metal band and their self titled album from 1970 was the first heavy metal album and that is where we will start - with the exception of Led Zeppelin.

Like with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame we will use the same format in that a band or artist is eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record.
